چکیده

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) presents a suitable source of green fodder in the livestock sector. However, its use as feed is limited by high concentration lignocellulose. A study was conducted to evaluate influence environment and developmental stage harvesting on lignin, cellulose, hemicellulose selected sorghum cultivars. field experiment laid randomized complete block design replicated three times at Egerton University (0°22′S; 35°55′E Nakuru county), Rongai (0°23′N; 35°51′E county) Marigat (0°46′N; 35°98′E Baringo Kenya years 2019 2020. Twenty different genotypes were grown sampled booting dough stages development. The samples analyzed for content. Plant growth, number days 50% heading, daily average temperatures recorded. Cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin content varied among across environments. lowest cellulose recorded line E6518 when (17.02%) while highest IS11442 (43.87%) from stage. Lignin than harvested had higher Location which distinctively temperature significant (p > 0.05) effect parameters with showing lignocellulose followed Marigat, respectively. positively correlated plant height heading. regression analysis showed negative relationship between heading total sum temperature. Crop stage, genotype, determine sorghum. recommendation region should consider local growing harvesting.

EFFECT OF PHOSPHORUS FERTILIZER ON YIELD AND NUTRITIONAL VALUE OF SORGHUM (Sorghum bicolor) FODDER AT THREE CUTTINGS

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of various levels of phosphorus fertilizer on the yield and nutritional value of sorghum fodder at three cuttings. The experiment was conducted by using 4 levels of Phosphorus fertilizer viz. 0 (T0) 40 (T1), 80 (T2) and 120 (T3) kg TSP/ha in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). A significant effect (P<0.01) of phosphorus fertilizer application...

Tolerance to Aluminium Toxicity in Tanzanian Sorghum Genotypes

Aluminium (Al) toxicity is a major abiotic constraint on grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) production on acid soils in East Africa. Aluminium in acidic soil inhibits water and mineral uptake from and consequently, reduces plant vigour and yield. A study was done to determine genetic diversity of Tanzania’s sorghum for response to Al toxicity. Five day old seedlings of 98 sorghum genotyp...

Effect of Harvesting Stage on Sweet Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) Genotypes in Western Kenya

Harvesting stage of sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) cane is an important aspect in the content of sugar for production of industrial alcohol. Four sweet sorghum genotypes were evaluated for harvesting stage in a randomized complete block design. In order to determine sorghum harvest growth stage for bioethanol production, sorghum canes were harvested at intervals of seven days after a...
